The Great Basin Balloon Festival was in full force this past weekend and like every year I am so gung ho on making it out to Spring Creek to see them all lift off. I had told the kids that I would like to take them. However, the night before I was a bit pooped out and really didn't want too. When I brought up the idea of bailing out, the tears and the sadness started. "You promised!" Xandry said.
Well, darn right I promised. So I got up at 5:30 made the hot chocolate and realized that Elko does not have a Dawn Patrol like Reno. I jumped back in bed and tried to catch some zzz's for another hour. This did not work of course, but at least the kiddos got to sleep for a bit longer. We were out the door by 6:45 AM with donuts and hot chocolate in hand.
It was a pretty sight, even though the balloons weren't all lit up. The favorite of mine and Brook's was Humpty and Smokey the Bear. Dalton and Xandry really went for the red, white, and blue star balloon.
All I can say is that I kept a promise and actually really enjoyed it once I was out there. Huh . . . always happens that way.
