As if being baptised wasn't a grand day, Dalton returned to school to find out he was selected by his 2nd grade teacher for the Student Recognition Program for the 2nd nine weeks. He was beaming as he ran up to the podium waiting to grab his certificate from Mrs. Fluckey, the principal. His teacher, Mrs. Baird, said the following things about my little man:
"Dalton has a been working diligently on his reading skills all year. Because of his hard work in class and at home, he is getting better each day. Dalton comes into the room every morning with a big smile. We are lucky to have him in our classroom. Your classmates and I are all proud of you!!"
Dalton then finished the week with the Pinewood Derby. Dalton chose his design of his car and put it together with the help of Dad and won 4th place for his den. This was Dalton's first year competing. Dad and I were a bit surprised at the expense that some parents go on the cars. Let's just say that next year, we too will have the fancy design, tool box and drill in hand for last minute changes on the vehicle. (They really go nuts on those things!) I personally see how it is more the dad's race than the boys. The boys are just lucky enough to hand the car over. I am not sure if Drew has what it all takes to be driven by aeronautical design and speed, but we will put out a better effort next year. I guess the night before isn't a great idea to really put a descent car together! We are always the procrastinators!
